UMPI's History Club hosting a dance seminar

Allagash Room at UMPI's Campus Center
The University of Maine at Presque Isle’s History Club will be hosting a dance seminar as a fundraiser for the club on Wednesday, Feb. 7 and Saturday, Feb. 10 at 6 p.m. in the Allagash Room of the Campus Center. Traditional Greek and other types of folk dancing will be demonstrated and members of the audience can join in. Children 6 and under are free, children older than 6, tickets are $3 and adults are $5. Tickets will be sold ahead of time by contacting Evan Zarkadas at evangelos.zarkadas@maine.edu or can be purchased at the door. This event is open to the public.

Maine-Que'bec Winter Carnival Caravan

Maine Woods
Join the 2018 Maine-Quebec Winter Carnival Caravan as we travel through the North Maine Woods to Quebec City for the world famous Quebec Winter Carnival, http://www.carnaval.qc.ca/en. The trip is scheduled from February 9-11, 2018.

Please register no later than January 28, 2018. The registration form is available for download at the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce website, http://www.centralaroostookchamber.com/


Registration fee is $30.00 per person. Any profit will be donated to a charity. The fee covers your admission to the Winter Carnival,and gifts for receiving guests.

We will be meeting at Dean’s Motor Lodge in Portage for breakfast at 6:00 am, Friday, February 9, 2018, departing at 7:00 am. We will enter the North Maine Woods via Rocky Brook Road in Portage. We cross the border at St. Pamphile and a second stop at Montmagny, Quebec. We will cross on the ferry from Levi to Quebec City ($10.50/car) and arrive in Quebec City at approximately 2:00PM.

Participants are responsible for their own accommodations in Quebec City and travel home. A list of hotels can be obtained from the Central Aroostook Chamber of Commerce. It may be helpful to print direction from the ferry to your hotel before we depart Feb. 9th.

You must have a clean record to enter Canada.

1033 Presque Isle Rd, Caribou
The Caribou Historical Center & Museum is pleased to present from our archives the history of the fiftieth anniversary of ‘Caribou Becomes a City,’ and the changes brought about by ‘The Caribou By-Pass,’ and downtown ‘Urban Renewal.’ This spans the years 1967- 1973 when great changes came to Caribou. The display will be open each Saturday from 12:00 - 4:00 pm during the months of January and February. We are located at 1033 Presque Isle Road, Caribou, about a half mile south of The Caribou Inn. All are welcome.
