POLAND, Maine - The Androscoggin County Sheriff's Office is investigating the death of a 13 year old male student who died of an apparent drowning that occurred at Range Pond State Park in Poland.
Police say the initial 911 call was received at approximately 11:47 a.m.
The male was a seventh grader at the Lewiston Middle School.
According to police, the boy was playing in the water with friends within the buoyed swimming area when he went under.
They say school staff and a lifeguard on duty all tried to find the boy but were unable to.
At 12:17 p.m., the boy was located by firefighters and taken to shore where he was administered aid.
The student was transported to Central Maine Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.
The boy was at the state park with other students as part of a school field trip.
