PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) A man is dead after an officer involved shooting in Presque Isle.

According to the Presque Isle Police, the incident happened around 12:30 Friday morning. The Presque Isle Police Department received a call that an individual was threatening two people in a mobile home at 290 Skyway Street.

A second call was received right after from a different source. Three officers responded. Once the officers were inside, Police Chief Matt Irwin says Officer Kyle White was assaulted by 25 year old Brentant Lahey who had a knife. Chief Irwin said because of the close proximity within the mobile home the officer felt that his life was in danger and he used deadly force. Medical personnel responded to the scene where Lahey was pronounced dead. This is the second death from an officer involved shooting by the Presque Isle Police in less than a year.

"Every incident is separate of the other it's a total set of different facts. We have to keep that in mind. We have to look at what happened at the moment in time with the set of circumstances that the officer was facing and that's what we do and that's what the AG's office will do." Said Police Chief Matt Irwin.

Officer Kyle White has been placed on administrative leave for at least the next couple of weeks. The Presque Isle police department will continue its investigation of the original calls regarding the assaults on the occupants of the home. The Attorney General's Office is investigating the use of force by Officer White. From there the PIPD will take a look to see if an internal investigation is needed. Chief Irwin added it can take six to nine months for the attorney general's office to conduct their investigation.
