Clearing out the Christmas tree

Now that Christmas has come and gone many people still have their tree up in their homes.

The Presque Isle fire department is warning homeowners to make sure they continue to water their tree. Christmas trees pose a huge fire risk. Chief Darrell White says within a matter of seconds a Christmas tree can be up in flames.

“You need to make sure they are watered, but if you start seeing needles falling off them easy just from walking and brushing up against one, you see the needles coming off it really is time to put Christmas away for the year and get those trees out of there and disposed of properly.”

UNDECORATED trees can be dropped off at these locations and no fee or permit is required.
