Driver arrested after crashing into diner

Yesterday, a traffic crash occurred at the intersection of Pioneer Avenue and Washington Street in Sanford.

Three vehicles were involved and one of them crashed into the Third Alarm Diner, injuring people inside.

One person was transported to Southern Maine Health Care. That patient was later transported to Maine Medical Center by Lifeflight. The patient is described as being in serious condition.

The driver of the vehicle that struck the diner was identified as 28 year old Mark Nolet of Sanford.

Nolet was arrested for operating without a license and has a court date set for January 9th in Springvale District Court.

The building received extensive damage and the diner will be closed until repairs can be made.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
