Edmundston Energy is advising customers to be on alert for fraudulent phone calls from individuals posing as NB Power or Edmundston Energy employees.
Edmundston Energy has received a few reports from customers who have received calls from individuals asking customers to make urgent payments by money order or credit card to avoid having their power disconnected. Edmundston Energy or Finance Department agents do to use these practices when dealing with customers. The same type of scam was reported last year.
Customers who receive calls from individuals making these claims are strongly encouraged to report the incident immediately to the Edmundston Police Force at 506.739.2100, the RCMP or the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1.888.495. 8501. Incidents can also be reported www.antifraudcentre-centreantifraude.ca/.
Edmundston Energy also reminds customers to be cautious when receiving phone calls requesting their financial information, or offering products and services.
