Fire destroys property in Mapleton

The Mapleton, Castle Hill and Chapman Fire Department responded to a garage fire just before noon on Saturday.

The property is owned by Brent Nickerson and his family.

Officials say that the garage was already fully engulfed and the roof had collapsed by the time fire fighters were able to respond.

The fire department says the garage was located next to a horse pasture which contained several horses. Officials say the family's firewood supply for the year was also beside the garage.

Officials say that the garage, tools and equipment were a total loss.

None of the animals on the farm were injured.

Mutual aid was provided by Presque Isle Fire Department with a tanker and a crew at the scene and Washburn fire manned the Mapleton station with and engine and a crew.
