EF Educational Tours who is leading the tour for Fort Kent Community High School released the following statement Thursday night.
"We are saddened by the tragic events that occurred in Paris earlier today. Our hearts and thoughts are with the police officers and their families.
We can confirm that all EF Educational Tours travelers are safe and accounted for. As for tomorrow, we have made the decision to avoid the area near the Champs Elysees and will make any other changes if they become necessary.
At the time of the incident there was a group from Fort Kent Community High School in the area and we are thankful that nobody was harmed. We have since transferred the group back to the hotel and made them aware that counseling is available if needed. We will continue to work with the group tomorrow to make any necessary modifications to their schedule to further support them.
EF Educational Tours wanted to clarify that the Tour Director wasn't missing. The guide was in the field ensuring that all travelers were accounted for and chaperoned back to their hotels.
We will continue to monitor this situation with our staff in Paris. Together with our network of regional offices we remain prepared to respond to any situation which may arise and amend itineraries as needed."
