Hiker Evacuated by Maine Forest Service Helicopter from Baxter State Park

Baxter State Park Rangers say that a 55 year old Michigan man was evacuated by a Maine Forest Service Helicopter after he was injured in Baxter State Park.

The injury occurred at the top of the Abol Trail at approximately 4,600 feet elevation and 3.5 miles from Abol Campground.

According to Rangers, the hiker had just begun descending the trail with his wife and daughter when his leg became wedged between two rocks.

The party called 911 and Park Rangers responded after being contacted by the Penobscot Regional Communication Center.

The hiker was transported to Millinocket Regional Hospital for treatment.
