Houlton Police Department investigating sexual assault involving an educator

The Houlton Police Department is currently investigating allegations of unlawful sexual assault involving minors and an employee at the Region Two School of Applied Technology.

According to police, the investigation is in its preliminary stages, will be ongoing and is being investigated aggressively.

The Houlton Police Department is working cooperatively with the Aroostook County District Attorney’s office in preparation for prosecution. Police say they are treating this with the utmost confidentiality to maintain the integrity of the investigation.

75 year old James Rochford of Houlton has been charged with three counts of unlawful sexual contact, one count of furnishing a place for minors to consume and one count of furnishing liquor to a minor. Additional charges may be forthcoming as the investigation continues.

Police say the Region Two School of Applied Technology is working cooperatively with the Houlton Police Department as the investigation continues and that measures have been taken to safeguard the youth currently attending the Region Two School of Applied Technology.

Other school districts have been notified as a precaution.

Police say these types of crimes will not be tolerated in the community and aggressive investigations and prosecution will be pursued. The Houlton Police Department encourages any victims to come forward by contacting Detective Nason.
