Police recover stolen back-hoe

On October 27th, the Houlton Police Department received a report of a stolen backhoe from the Houlton Cemetery located on Smyrna Street.

The back-hoe, owned by Nickerson’s Construction, was on lease to the cemetery.

It was believed the back-hoe was trailered and removed from the property. A requested for public assistance was published looking for the support as the investigation continued.

Yesterday, the Houlton Police Department received a “anonymous tip” that the stolen back-hoe was in Island Falls behind “Franks Garage.”

The Maine State Police checked on the location and confirmed the stolen back-hoe had been located.

At this time, the Houlton Police Department is continuing the investigation.
