PRESQUE ISLE, Me (WAGM) An important announcement for drivers in the Presque Isle area- beginning the first of May, a section of State Street will be closed. The section begins at the intersection of State Street and Centerline Road and ends at the intersection of State and Route 167.
That's in order for construction to be done on a bridge that will take state street over what will be the Presque Isle bypass.
Wyatt Johnson is the assistant engineer on the project. Ed Pelletier and Sons is the lead contractor.
Johnson says the earlier folks know about the closure, the more they can adjust and plan alternate routes to where they need to go.
"It's a relatively low traffic area so we're hoping it doesn't impact too much," said Johnson.
Johnson says once the bridge is complete enough to allow traffic across, the route will open up to at least one lane, maybe two. He says so far the construction zone has been safe, and people have been taking it slow in that area.
