Senator Susan Collins says volume of calls overwhelming staff

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) - Maine Senator Susan Collins says her staff is overwhelmed by the volume of calls

Collins added the majority of people who have flooded her offices with phone calls in recent weeks are from out of state.

Collins visited with the progressive group, Mainers For Accountable Leadership, yesterday in a livestreamed meeting. Toward the end of the meeting, Collins mentioned that her offices recently fielded thousands of calls on a variety of issues and it was difficult for her staff to keep up with the volume.

Collins mentioned she was worried that people having trouble accessing Social Security or veterans' benefits were having trouble getting through to her amidst all the calls.

Meantime, the progressive group is hosting three rallies around Maine on Feb. 22: in Portland, Bangor and Lewiston. The group is referring to the rallies as "open air town halls."
