Two motorcyclists killed in Augusta crash

State Police say two motorcyclists were killed yesterday afternoon in a collision with a pickup truck on Interstate 95 in Augusta.

According to police, 58 year old Jamie Gross of Belmont died at the scene and 25 year old Aaron White-Sevigny of Windsor died shortly after arriving at the hospital.

The two other motorcyclists, 50 year old Trevor Proctor and 46 year old Tori McGraw, were transported to Maine General in Augusta.

The driver of the truck, 67 year old William Nusom and his passenger, his 99 year old mother Anna, sustained minor injuries.

The crash took place just after noon between exits 112 and 113 in the northbound lanes. The bikes involved in the crash were part of several thousand motorcycles taking part in the annual United Bikers Toy Run, which had just started from the Augusta Civic Center .

Troopers said four motorcycles were involved in the collision with the pickup, which ended up on its side in a ditch off the highway.

Augusta Police estimated less than a fourth of the 3,000 motorcycles involved in the toy run were ahead of the crash. The remaining motorcycles were detoured on outer Civic Center Drive, to make their way to the Windsor Fairgrounds.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation.
