Update to crash involving MSAD 27 bus

Yesterday the Maine State Police received a report of a two vehicle crash with injuries on State Route 161 in New Canada.

Police say that 19 year old Alicia Fiordellisi was traveling south on Route 161.

According to police, Fiordellisi had her cat on her lap as she was driving. Police say she felt a wet spot on her pants from the cat and looked down.

When she looked up she had swerved into the north bound lane of traffic where a local school bus was driving north.

The bus, operated by 69 year old Arnold Dubois had 58 students on board at the time of the crash.

Police say Fiordellisi hit the school bus head on. Dubois saw the vehicle coming and tried to take evasive action but was not able to avoid the vehicle.

The bus driver and some of the students had minor injuries. Fiordellisi sustained injuries to her head and leg. The cat was killed in the crash.

Both the bus and car were towed due to disabling damage.

The investigation is still on going and charges are pending.
