Currier and Johnson make US Biathlon teams

NEW GLOUCESTER, Me (WAGM) - The US Biathlon Association announced the national teams for the upcoming season.

Russell Currier from Stockholm is on the men's national team. Currier will be on the B team this year and will try to work his way up back to the A team. Currier returned to the World Cup Biathlon circuit last year. He had a top 20 finish at IBU Cup 7 in Finland in an individual event. Currier also took a first and a third at the US Biathlon Championships. Currier is looking for his second Olympic Berth. He was on the team four years ago in Sochi, Russia and is focused on trying to make the team that will compete in South Korea next year.

Cody Johnson of Fort Kent was picked to be on the National Development Group, which is for youth and juniors. Johnson won three gold medals in the sprint, pursuit and in the mass start races at the US Biathlon Championships. During the IBU World Championships, Johnson twice was the top American to finish.
