Fort Fairfield, Me (WAGM) - The Fort Fairfield Tigers Cheerleaders will take center stage at the Augusta Civic Center on Saturday. The Tigers are one of four teams from the County who will be competing. Fort Fairfield qualified for the Class D event with a fourth place finish at the Regionals. They moved up two spots from last year when they finished sixth in the same competition

(Rachel Emery):"It was so awesome to have such an improvement from last years team. This is a a brand new team for us. Half of the team members never cheered before coming into this year. Half of them are veterans for them to come together and pull out a fourth place finish was really exciting."

The Tigers have just one senior on the team. Makaila Flanagan is providing a lot leadership for the young squad.

(Mikaila Flanagan):"Coming back i knew I needed to step up to the plate not only for numbers sake, but for myself. This is my senior year and I busted out everything I had. I did have some doubts at times."

Junior Julian McKenney is a three year veteran of the team.

(Julian McKenney):" The biggest difference this year is the leadership role. When I first started out a little freshmen walking into a really big team. During games I could rely on others to use their voice or call certain cheers. I was the inexperienced one and we had several experienced ones who knew what they were doing."

The Tigers worked hard the week of the Regionals after missing two days of practice, the Tigers worked hard Thursday and then got creative on Friday

Emery:"We practiced Friday night in our hotel. We used a conference room space to work on timing of the things we knew were part of the problem. When it really mattered and when it really counted we were able to come together and put on a good performance."

Fort Fairfield would like to improve even more over the next few days and move up in the final rankings

Emery:" I felt I had to sharpen up some of my transitions and make them a little more purposeful. We would have liked to have them going into regionals but due to our limited time those were some things going in I knew I wanted to work on. We really focused on that the last week.
