Houlton Cheerleaders looking forward to States

HOULTON, Me (WAGM) - The Houlton Cheerleaders cap off a very successful season tomorrow at the Augusta Civic Center. The Shiretowners won both the Aroostook League and PVC Small School Championships and finished second in the Class C Regional Cheering competition.

(Renae Foley):"It was so exciting I have seen these kids grow so much over the last four years. Every year they are a little better than the year before and it is exciting to see their hard work pay off. "

(Hannah Foley):" We only lost by fractions of a point and it encouraged us to work hard for States."

(Hannah Jacobs): It is an amazing feeling. Our team is in sync this year. We all have the same goal and it feels great to have this under our belt and we plan on winning a State too."

The Shiretowners have nailed it this year. They are a veteran group of cheerleaders. They have also come together as a team and have developed some great chemistry

Foley:" We are really a family this year. We have put everything into it. We won Counties and PVC's and that gave us fire."

Jacobs:" We are a diverse team. We have musicians and artists and we are all athetles. We are working well together."

Renae Foley and Julie Dunn co coach the team. Foley says the team is going with a very similar routine to the one they performed at the States.

Foley:" We are trying to tighten up everything. We have added a couple of changes based on the results of the Regional competition. Just working on making our routine as clean as tight as possible."

Houlton has a very large cheering squad. They feel it is important to give students the opportunity to take part and be a member of a team

Foley:" We just feel that is an important part of Athletics here in Houlton. We can take 20 and we always do. We want kids to be involved in our programs."

Jacobs says it will be a strange feeling taking the mat tomorrow for the final time as a Houlton cheerleader

Jacobs:" It is going to be kind of surreal being the last competition I am going to be at. Hopefully we win States but either way it will be a great experience with a great team."
