(WAGM) - Ice fishing enthusiasts will have a little extra time to fish through the ice this season.

Due to unusually cold weather conditions and an emergency resolve signed by the governor, ice fishing season in the northern region of the state is extended from April 1 through Sunday, April 16. Any lakes in Northern Maine that had an original closing date of March 31st will be extended to the 16th.

Waters that are not open to ice fishing will remain closed to ice fishing.
