SAHS Warriors are young and talented

DYER BROOK, Me (WAGM) - The Southern Aroostook girls basketball team is comprised of eighth graders, freshmen and sophomores. The youthfulness of the team hasn't bothered them. They ended the regular season at 17-1 and head into the tournament as the top seed.

(Cliff Urquhart):"Last year they said we were the youngestteaml ever in the State and this year we are the second youngest team ever. Every game you learn something new and learn something different."

The Warriors lost in the semfinals last year to the Central Aroostook Panthers. The coach and players agree they came into this season hungry and have the year of tournament experience under their belt

Urquhart:"You get todwn there and no one on that team is experienced any tournament play. We got that under our belts and know what to expect when we get down there."

(Katelyn Slauenwhite) I think the Central game we were really really hungry for them and wanted to win really badly. I think we all came out with extra fire. Playing summer ball we all wanted to get a lot better so we could go down to the tournament and win States this yer. I think we worked a lot harder this year.

(Sydney Brewer):" A lot of experience especially being in the tourrnament we got a feel for the Bangor Auditorium. The atmosphere of it really helped this yeaer and we are more mentally tough than we were last year by far."

The Warriors are a well rounded team. Several different players have led them in scoring at times this year. Urquhart feels they have several keys to success

Urquhart:" I think we have some pretty good chemistry and some balance. Some good outside shooting and inside play. We create a lot of turnovers through our pressure defense. I think we are doing a good job in rebounding the ball. We have all that experience from last year and that has helped a lot going into this year.

The players all agree that having a year on the Cross Insurance Center floor under their belts should help with the pre tournament jitters.

Brewer:" All summer we had talked about how excited we were for this season. We were more excited than we were nervous because last year we were wicked nervous and this year we were excited and ready to start the season.
