The SAHS Warriors are preparing for the State Championship game Saturday in Augusta.
The Warriors have had a few day look back at the accomplishment of capturing a Northern Regional Championship.
(Cliff Urquhart):" It is certainly a good accomplishment for the school and the community. It has been 22 years since we have been there so the kids are excited and ready for the game."
The Warriors have had a great run. They are still a very young team with several players starting for three years and they are still underclassmen
Urquhart:" Still young. We still don't have any seniors. We are playing a team with five senior starters that all return back from the State Championship team last year. Augusta is going to be a new thing for us we have never been down there to play a game."
(Kassidy Mathers):" I feel a lot better about reaching our goal. We are way more mature and we have a lot more experience and I like our chances."
(Kylie Vining):" It feels really really good. We have been dreaming about this since we were really young. We have been working on this since we were young also. The maturity also came along."
(Sydney Brewer):" It feels really good because we have worked so hard to get here. Just knowing that we have been dreaming about this since we were little."
SAHS and Defending State Champion Vinalhaven play similar brand of basketball.
Urquhart:" They are a team that likes to push the tempo just like us. They have one really good post player and four kind of good shooters and role players around. I think defensively we have to amp it up and make them feel uncomfortable and just try to dig in."
Urquhart says the team continues to play good defense and that will be a key when they take on Defending State Champion Vinalhaven.
Urquhart:" Our defense has gotten better as the year has gone on. We mix a zone trip in with some half court man and three quarter court or full court when we need to. Expect a mix of all of that on Saturday.
