SAHS softball hopes to return to Finals

The Southern Aroostook softball team is having another very successful season. The Warriors lost in the Northern Regional Championship game last year to PVHS. Coach Rob Betchner says that playing on the Championship stage last year will help his young team again this season.

Rob Betchner:" Anytime you get the experience on that kind of level is a plus if you can make it down that far again."
Head into this week the Warriors won their first nine games of the season. They lost some important players from last years team, but the young players are stepping up again.

Betchner:" We lost three seniors and some good ball players. We got a young group."

Southern Aroostook has just one senior and three juniors on this years team . The other eight players are either freshmen or sophomores. Kylie Vining is the team's top pitcher, but Betchner says the team has some depth at that position.

Betchner:" Pitching wise we should be ok. We have three pitchers and of course we have our ace Kylie Vining which is always good."

They have given up just 42 runs so far this season have they are relying on the bats scoring 100 runs so gar

Betchner:" That is one thing this year we need to work on. I think defensively we should be stronger as the year goes on and the main thing is our hitting."

The long time coach says the team had to overcome bad weather early in the year playing several back to back games.

Betchner:" Every year I have done this you always end up with four or five games a week. You get used to it and you have to do it. It's a part of playing up in Northern Maine."
