PRESQUE ISLE, Me (WAGM) -

The University of Maine Presque Isle has named a new Women's Basketball Coach and he is no stranger to hoops in the State of Maine. Gavin Kane who is one of the most successful High School Coaches is the Owls New coach.

Dan Kane:"Our campus is very excited to have such a quality coach come join our athletic department. The hope he will continue to the program moving in the right direction."

Kane is best known for his High School success. His teams won 17 conference championships, 12 Western Maine Championships, seven State Championships and had an overall head coaching record of 522-117 while coaching at Dirigo Rangeley, Spruce Mountain and at Mt Blue.He has also been an assistant women's coach at the University of Maine and also with the men's team at University of Maine Farmington.

Kane:"Everywhere he has gone he has been very successful. As a coach he has an over 80 percent winning percentage. He has that college experience and we are really looking forward to have as well. It is interesting because a lot of our coaches this year either played against him or coached against him in the past. He is very familiar with the rest of our staff."

Kane will begin recruiting players immediately and because of another job will not be on campus until just before the start of the women's basketball practice season. UMPI's Athletic Director feels that having such a familiar name coaching the women's team will help with recruiting in other parts of the State.

Kane:" His name across the State could help with recruting as we really try to get the top State of Maine Players."
