Jones Back in Court

A 17 year old charged with manslaughter in the death of his infant daugther was back in court today.

Niklas Jones appeared before Judge Ron Daigle in Caribou District Court this afternoon for a second hearing. Jones is accused of throwing his 3-month old daughter Joselyn into a crib to stop her from crying at his Limestone apartment on April 23rd. The medical examiner determined Joselyn died of blunt trauma to the head.

After entering a plea denying the charges, Jones was taken back to the Charleston Correctional Facility, where he is currently being held. The state has filed a motion for a diagnostic evaluation to determine if Jones should be tried as an adult.If tried as an adult Jones could face up to thirty years in prison and a fine up to 50 thousand dollars, if tried as a juvenile he could be sentenced to remain at the charleston facility until his 21st birthday. The tentative date for the next hearing will be August 27th to 28th. (WAGM-TV)
