SACAP / VISIONS ~ BOOK SIGNING & READING– Penny Guisinger Author of “Postcards From Here”

Event Dates and Times

4/22/2016 - Starts: 5:00 PM - Ends: 7:00 PM
SACAP/VISIONS/BLUE MOON GALLERY - 66 MAINE STREET ~ MARKET SQUARE, HOULTON
'Visions' is excited to present a Book Signing & Reading on Friday April 22nd from 5-7 pm,...by author Penny Guisinger; who wrote "Postcards From Here". Refreshments will be served, and we hope everyone who is enjoys the art of writing; or reading books by Maine authors, can join us for this very special event.

"Postcards from Here" is a capturing of a community, a harsh and beautiful place, a family, and the internal experience of its author in the form of micro-essays. The book takes on the realities of rural New England life, the moments and details that stitch a community together, the politics of being gay and divorced in such a place, and the visceral details of raising children, gardening, porcupines, travel, marriage, and other hazards of living. Written in a coastal community at the eastern edge of the United States, this book works to transcend the Maine depicted on touristy postcards by crafting missives its rural residents might really send-what true stories this place and its people have to tell. The individual pieces in "Postcards" tell stories that are both intensely personal and entirely communal in scope, and as a collection they create a portrait of one person's attempt to do a good job at this business of being human."

SACAP / VISIONS / BLUE MOON GALLERY ~ FEATURED ARTIST SHOW : CANDACE MCKELLAR ~ “CANDY GOES COASTAL”

Event Dates and Times

10/4/2015 - Starts: 12:00 PM - Ends: 5:00 PM
66 Main Street, Market Square in Houlton
After over 40 years in Southern Aroostook County Candy and her family still have not tired of the mountains, hill and coast that are Maine. Painting Mt. Katahdin has always been her love but since she goes to the coast every summer and paints there, it seemed to her a good idea to show how an artist from the interior, potato country and deep woods, would portray the shores and rocky cliffs of Maine.

Her paintings from the coast of Maine and as far south as Martha’s Vineyard, come from time spent in locations like Schoodic Point, Monhegan Island, Pemaquid Point, Boothbay Harbor area in Maine painting over several years; in Massachusetts painting on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard just recently.

The East Boothbay and Ocean Point area of the Boothbay Harbor region are most dear to Candy because her grandfather bought a cottage there over 50 years ago so that is where they came in the summer. Green Island , every coastal area had its own “Green Island”, and the Ram Island Lighthouse, Pemaquid Lighthouse and Burnt Island Lighthouse are frequent subjects. Learning how to paint waves, rocks and cottages present their own challenges and understanding.

Each painting tries to capture a mood or feeling and the atmosphere to give each canvas a sense of place that can resonate with the viewer.

Enjoy an inland meadow, mountain and forest dwellers point of view of our beautiful and rugged coastline of Maine and New England.

We hope you will take the time to come see this very special show! Our Fall/Winter hours hours are Tues. – Fri. ~ 12:00pm – 5:00pm & Saturdays ~ 10:00am – 2:00pm. We are located at 66 Main Street, in downtown Market Square, Houlton.
