News of the mass shooting in Las Vegas and the aftermath has been nonstop over the past few days. According to those in the mental health field, that can have an affect on those watching.
(Chamberlain) “At times that can be pretty traumatic for some. We sometimes call that for those who have that real extensive experience vicarious traumatization.”
Lorraine Chamberlain is the director of emergency services at the Aroostook mental health center. She says if you do feel overwhelmed and have an emotional response she suggests avoiding coverage of the events. She also says it’s important to reach out and talk about your feelings.
