Former Gaither Vocal Band member sells out County concert

A former Gaither Vocal Band member sang to a full house Saturday. Singer, songwriter and children's author David Phelps was in Houlton at the Military Street Baptist Church. David Phelps is best known for incredible tenor voice and range as well as his 18 years with the Gaither Vocal Band. More than 500 people attended the concert over the weekend. Phelps says he hopes everyone left having had a good time. Phelps was joined on stage by singer Charlotte Richie, who has been a part of groups like the Nelons and the Easters and by his two daughters, who each sang a duet with him. He was also backed up by a local choir of 30 people. The proceeds from the event will be going to benefit the Greater Houlton Christian Academy. The next event will be Three Bridges at the Littleton Baptist Church on August 2nd.

Veterans invited to be honored during August Fest

Veterans from all branches of the military will be honored during August Fest activities in Washburn on Saturday. Hollie Umphrey, chair of the Washburn August Festival, says the entire event is geared toward veterans. She is inviting military personnel - both residents of Washburn and those from elsewhere - to join the day-long celebration.
