New Ownership at Limestone Country Club

Limestone, Me (WAGM) -Limestone Country Club has a new owner. 4 Birdies LLC purchased the course from the Loring Development Authority. The new owners are looking to add to the history of the course.

(Boyles:" This has been a mecca of one of the golf courses across the East Coast for years when the Air Force Base was open. When it went to new ownership after that they did a great job and then it was leased for a while. We decided to take over and buy the place and we want to put it back on the map. We are doing whatever we can to make sure that we bring in the right people as employees and members here."

When Loring Air Force Base closed in 1994 What was then Inland Winds golf course became an entity of the LDA and was then purchased and privately owned for several years until it came back under LDA control in 2014 and the course was leased by individuals from 2015 to the end of last year. Boyles says the course been seeing an increase in membership over the last three years.

Boyles:” The last few years was increasing membership. In 2017 we had 37 members and this year to this point we have 110 members.”

Boyles says his group’s goal is to make it fun for golfers of all skill levels

Boyles:” This game as a fun game not a stuffy game. We want people to come out and have a good time being able to learn the game of golf. Get a chance to get outside in Northern Maine that is the big thing for all Northern Mainers. We don’t have a lot of things to do in the winter and summer time and golf is one of the finest things we have to do in the summertime.”
