Lamoreau: “AMHC has been very supportive to individuals trying to continue to seek recovery through this epidemic. This epidemic has really forced a lot of people to isolate, and isolation is the number one enemy of someone in recovery. We are really about making connection!”

Robert: The Roads to Recovery Center in Caribou and the Aroostook Recovery Center of Hope in Houlton are two crucial Peer Support Centers, part of the AMHC network, that provide community members a place to receive support for their substance use recovery journey.

Lamoreau: "We offer free Naloxone trainings -- free Naloxone. We also offer a Women in Recovery Group. Also starting to do this month, do an AdCare training, to really provide a training for family members to be able to talk to their adolescents about substance use disorder."

Robert: When Roads to Recovery and Aroostook Recovery Center of Hope closed back in March due to COVID-19, the centers quickly turned to virtual means in continuing their essential Peer Support services. The online offering of programs and meetings came with added benefits.

Lamoreau: "It's been a win-win all the way around. And the fact that the virtual aspect has really opened doors for individuals that might've had a fear of coming into the center. But through that connection, they now feel more comfortable coming in."

Robert: With both Peer Support centers reopening back on June 15th, all of the virtual resources and services have been kept in place, while adding back in in-person programs -- allowing both centers to continually provide an unmatched level of care, connection, trust, and support that is needed by so many within our community.

Lamoreau: “That’s one of the prime staples of recovery, is giving back. And in this way we really want to give back to our community a healthy atmosphere.”
