PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -

The County Market started up in Caribou last night. The market is a free way for venders to sell Aroostook County grown or handmade products. Newssource 8′s Anna Soderberg has more on the new weekly market.

There’s a new market in town…The County Market is held in Caribou and includes venders from the County selling everything from crafts to locally grown food. Troy Haney created the Market and says he wants to see small businesses thrive here in the county.

“We wanted to find a way to give back to them and to help them in this tough time of COVID, find a way to get their products to market and help them succeed. So, we developed this free market, it’s free to the vendors and free to obviously the people coming in. And we’re able to promote their products, promote their farms and promote their artwork and crafts. And give them a place, a venue to sell things, in a safe environment here at the store” says Troy Haney.

Brooke Ridley is the founder of Farmhouse Fundamentals and More, where she repurposes home goods to give them a second life. She says that not only was it the first County Market, but also the first time she’s sold her products in person.

“I love anything about the county and I’ve always loved Thursday’s on Sweden. I really appreciate how Troy Haney has thought differently, thinking outside the box now is something we all need to do. I hesitated at first, like gee should I sign up because I was definitely going to come as a customer, and I was like you know what I should probably try it out, and see if it’s a good opportunity and tonight it really seems like it is” says Brooke Ridley.

Ridley says she will definitely be returning. The County Market will be held every Wednesday until late September, at Haney’s Home, Lawn and Garden from 5 to 7:30 PM. Anna Soderberg, Newssource 8.
