Community Art Gallery is Happening in Downtown Presque Isle
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - There is a new pop up art gallery in Presque Isle and it’s outside. Newsource 8′s Anna Soderberg has the story.
Filomena Irving is a member of the Aroostook Partnership of the Arts. She says that expressing your emotions through art can be therapeutic, so she helped set up this community art gallery at the Riverside Park Pavilion in Presque Isle. She says it gives community members a chance to feel connected through the creativity of others.
“As a member of the partnership of the arts, we find it very important to promote creativity and arts in our community, and right now during these crazy times we thought it would be a wonderful thing to give people an opportunity to express themselves and express their emotions and their feelings in the manner of an arts display.”
Irving says they are still accepting new art of any kind to add to the gallery and encourages families to use this as an opportunity to be creative with your kids.
“We’re anticipating more, we’d like to encourage more people to participate, it’s not too late to participate. You don’t have to be an artist to be involved. If you wish to express yourself using macramé or some other form of art, we welcome it, just keep in mind your piece is going to be exposed to the elements, so it needs to be durable. We recommend using acrylics or spray paint, watercolors aren’t going to hold up to the elements unfortunately.”
Irving says that the collaborative community gallery is open to all of Aroostook County and the artwork will remain on display into the Fall. You can find blank canvases to add to the display at the Common Gallery in Downtown Presque Isle. Anna Soderberg Newssource 8.
