City officials approve third medical marijuana site
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -
Presque Isle City Council has given approval to the opening downtown of another medical marijuana facility.
City Manager Martin Puckett says this is the third business of this kind to open this year in the community. He says the business met all the criteria established by the city, Planning Board, and the state.
“The state hasn’t approved anything for recreational marijuana use, so these are medical marijuana establishments. So there’s been three that have successfully gone through the permitting process through the state and through the city. So we’re happy to see that some of these vacant buildings are being used, that they’re employing individuals, and opening up storefronts, so hopefully it will add to additional traffic in the downtown area,” says Martin Puckett.
Puckett says the name of the business, which will be opening at 483 Main Street, has yet to be released. He says Council will be reviewing and making updates to the city’s Medical Marijuana Ordinance in the near future, to better align with the state.
