ATV and RV Sales Increase Amid Pandemic
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The COVID-19 pandemic has sparked an increase in sales for Recreational Vehicles and ATV’s. News Source 8′s Cam Smith has more on how businesses are being impacted by this high demand.
“It’s been a struggle all Spring long to get inventory in. The demand is extremely high.”
The demand for RV’s, campers, and ATV’s have skyrocketed amid the COVID-19 pandemic.
“What we’ve had available for units to sell has been cut over half. The same way with the power sports, ATV’s and side by sides, the demand is through the roof. Customers are coming in looking for stuff that they’re hoping to find and having to settle for what’s available at the time or having to wait at the mercy of the manufacturers to get the products out.”
Due to the pandemic, many manufacturers have had a hard time keeping up.
“COVID 19 basically closed most manufacturing plants for about six weeks. With that happening and producing about 100 units a day, cutting out six weeks was a huge impact throughout the nation not just our region here in the northeast. That caused a lot of headaches with customers wanting to go right now.”
Jonathan Haskell, the Sales Manager at Houlton Powersports says despite the lack of product, it’s great to see families turning to outdoor recreation.
“Biggest thing now I’m seeing more and more families coming in that are used to being in front of video games and electronics, that are actually connecting going camping and going out on their side by sides, as a group and as a family, and really discovering that they can have a lot of fun. One couple that had a trip planned to Disney, took that money and invested it into a toy, and really connected themselves and are using the outdoors to self-quarantine, to isolate, and really get back to their roots with outdoors and the county.”
Haskell is hopeful that throughout the winter months, they will be able to bounce back and have a full selection come this time next year. Cam Smith, News Source 8.
