A record number of homes are being sold throughout Aroostook County to out-of-state buyers. Shawn Cunningham talks to some local realtors who say the pandemic has turned out to be a driving force for people looking to relocate.

A quiet street in Caribou. But inside these homes and throughout the county community people are talking. Talking about the new neighbors. And there are plenty of new neighbors calling Northern Maine home right now say many local realtors.

Stephanie Fields Realtor, Fields Realty LLC.

“you hear people say its the best kept secret obviously the secret is out more and more people are coming to the area but they deem it as a safer place to live.”

Cathy Duffy Realtor, Progressive Realty

“when I talk to them i’m like what made you wanna come up here they don’t know anybody and they said we juist picked the map put our finger on it and said we’re heading up.”

Jane Towle Realtor ReMax County

“its really a push from urban to rural and that’s been determined by multiple listing services across the country and so we’ve seen pushes like this before but never from urban to rural we’ve seen rural to urban.”

Shawn Cunningham NO STANDUP

And people from all over the country are flocking to Northern Maine. Its a hot property region right now. While realtors say the pandemic has certainly been an impetus and driving force, the county boasts a number of other offerings for new residents.

“one of them is that people are looking for privacy which privacy means different things to different people it could mean a half acre with not being able to touch your neighbor on either side it could mean all the way to a hundred acres for some and so we have all of that.”

Another issue...SAFETY.

“safety there’s unrest in so many areas in urban areas that they’re just looking for safety.”

And another trend that all these realtors say they’ve encountered. The impact of virtual. They say they’ve been in a number of successful negotiations and closings by way of virtual tours...selling homes throughout the county SITE UNSEEN.

“People can be working for a company in Florida but living in Maine.”

“we just closed on one on Friday and they hadn’t see the property until they got here and when they went in they loved it.”

“I see them out and they love it here they just love it and it couldn’t be a better place to live.”

A great place to live that’s now getting a lot of word of mouth...and new residents now calling this great place to live home. Shawn Cunningham, NS 8.
