PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The Whole Family Approach through ACAP, has impacted families all throughout Aroostook County. News Source 8′s Cam Smith has more on how this program has helped two families get back on their feet.

“Without these programs, I wouldn’t be standing here today.”

The Whole Family Approach program is run through the Aroostook County Action Program. By focusing on the whole family, the program helps in areas like food security, housing, and education. Jennifer Smith is the mother of 5 children and says that the program has helped her to achieve her goals.

“Where I am with my children… we almost have our own home. That is a great accomplishment and I’m looking forward to helping others.”

Through ACAP, Smith has become an Ambassador and is using her voice to help others who are in similar situations.

Kayty Jalbert is another mother who has benefited from the Whole Family Approach Program. She says the support the program provides has made a difference.

“ACAP and their whole approach has helped me with employment, childcare, transportation. I mean the support system has been completely endless.”

Both Smith and Jalbert say reach out for help. It only takes is one phone call.

“It is hard to ask for help. But it’s a step up and it doesn’t have to be a lifestyle. It’s a steppingstone to help make your life better.”

“Definitely reach out. There are tons of resources out here especially in the county, we’re very lucky. And we have endless resources so reach out. They are out there and they’re wanting to help.”
