Easton, Maine (WAGM) -

It’s a project that’s been 2 years in the making. The Easton High School soccer teams will now have the ability to play under the lights.

Travis Carter:” Pretty excited the town has been talking about it fir quite a while. To see them finally go up. seeing them on the ground, but now they are going up people have been texting me all day sending me pictures. I think everyone in the community is excited about it.”

This was a massive financial undertaking with the total project costing over 100 thousand dollars, but the money was raised both in the community and from people with ties to Easton. They also received a couple of substantial grants to help purchase and erect the lights.

Carter:” A lot of generosity from Alumni to local business and some grants. We have had raffles and all kinds of fund raisers. It came together pretty quick. a couple of years and we have some really nice lights going up.”

Carter was the Project Manager and he said when the lights are used for the first time it will be very emotional for him.

Carter:” It will be pretty emotional because the school has allowed me to name this after my grandparents Clare and Eldora Carter who were a really big part of the community for many many years. It was a push as a family member, but all the family members helped.”

The Carters were very involved in the community and were huge sports fans. Clair was the Principal at the school and also coached sports for over 2 decades. Eldora wrote for the weekly paper and had her hand on the pulse of the community. Until this year the boys and girls in Easton played on separate soccer fields and both games started at the same time. Now they will be able to play game later in the evening which will give parents and fans a chance to attend more games.

Carter:” The biggest problem with soccer during the day is people work during the day and this will bring people who don’t have families out here and they will still come because there is something going on in the evening. You will see two to three times as many fans coming compared to a day game.”
