Doctor publishes book based on his experiences as health care provider
VAN BUREN, Maine (WAGM) -
A local physician has published his first book, based on 40 years of experience in health care. Kathy McCarty speaks with the author about where he found his inspiration.
What began as a blog entitled “A Country Doctor Writes,” has evolved into a book of about hundred short essays based on the life experiences of Dr. Hans Duvefelt. The Swedish-born physician began writing the online blog 12 years ago, but wanted to make his work available to a wider audience.
“I’ve had a lot of attention from it - a lot of readers, but it’s out there in the internet. It’s nothing you can touch, it’s nothing you can hold in your hand, so I thought it would be nice to turn some of my writing into a book,” says Dr. Hans Duvefelt.
This will be the first in a series of books based on his career.
He says “There’ll be three or more books, and the first one is called ‘Conditions’ - ‘A Country Doctor Writes: Conditions.’”
The first publication includes issues that affect an individual’s health.
“In it I’ve pulled out pieces I’ve written, either about interesting diagnoses that I’ve come across - made some of them and I missed some of them - and also other conditions, like the stuff people have to deal with, the circumstances that pop up in people’s lives,” says Duvefelt.
With blogs already written, it only took a few months to categorize and edit the essays.
Duvefelt says “Then what you have to do is you’ve got to do the formatting and cover and all, because I’m self-publishing this on Kindle Direct Publishing as an E-book and as a - as a paperback.”
Duvefelt says writing has helped him focus on what really matters. He hopes his book will inspire others, be it health care providers or the general public, to do the same.
Duvefelt is a physician who divides his time between Pines Health Center in Van Buren and Bucksport Regional Health Center. His book is available on Amazon.
