PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Northern Light A.R Gould Hospital is looking to expand their Aroostook Career Exploration Program to students here in the County.

The program gives students in their early high school years a chance to explore different areas of the health care field. Now in its second year, the program helps students to gain experience and hands on learning in health care. At the end of the student’s time in the program, there is an opportunity for a scholarship to help with costs of college tuition. The Vice President of Operations at Northern Light Health says that this program provides an opportunity for students to figure out what career path they want to take after high school.

“What this program does, is it brings them into a health care environment and shows them all of the things that we do. More important than giving them a path to what they would like to do, is giving them a path to say hey I really don’t want to do that. We know lots of people choose a career and then end up not really liking it, so this is a way to really explore not only the things that you want to do, but what things are you sure that you might not want to do.”
