HOULTON, Maine (WAGM) -

Strict safety protocols continue to be followed at the Aroostook County Jail.

Sheriff Shawn Gillen says from the beginning of the pandemic, efforts have been made to ensure the safety of inmates, staff, and visitors to the jail. Those efforts appear to be working.

“Other counties are doing a great job as well - not taking anything away from them. But, you know, we - we are going above and beyond. I mean, we’re - we’re screening our officers coming in and going out. So, you know, if they get sick during their shift, we’re gonna know it. You know, mask wearing and screening everybody that comes into the jail has really, I think, made a difference,” says Sheriff Shawn Gillen.

Gillen says while other places of incarceration have experienced cases, the plan in place at the Houlton facility continues to work, keeping the jail Covid-free.
