CARIBOU, Maine (WAGM) -

An event that is normally held in Washington DC was held at Cary Medical Center over the weekend.

Due to COVID 19, American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network encouraged local groups to host a Lights of Hope event. Organizer Bethany Zell says that 85 luminary bags were sponsored locally, with proceeds going toward the Advocacy Arms organization.

“So the Advocacy Arm does a lot as far as research advocacy; we do a lot of meeting and talking with our congressional delegation to talk to them about legislation and different health insurance initiatives that will help people who are living with cancer here in Maine and throughout the country and throughout the world actually,” says Bethany Zell.

Zell says if you’d like to make a donation, to go to American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network website. https://www.fightcancer.org/
