Versant Power warns customers of latest scam
BANGOR, Maine (WAGM) -
Versant Power is warning customers of the latest scam.
Judy Long, Manager of Communication and Brand, says Versant customers began reporting scam phone calls Wednesday morning. She says calls were coming from a number in New York, threatening disconnection of electrical service if immediate payment weren’t made within 30 minutes.
“A lot of times when we see these scams, the scammers will ask customers to get a pre-paid debit card or some other non-refundable form of payment, and that should be a red flag for people. If someone calls threatening immediate disconnection and asking for some non-refundable form of payment, that is not Versant Power,” says Judy Long.
Long says if a customer is behind on their bill, Versant gets in touch with them and works with them to find a solution, rather than disconnect their service. We’ll have more on what Versant is doing to assist customers as a result of the pandemic on a future edition of the news.
