Aroostook Agency on Aging Services Ahead of Medicare Open Enrollment
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - As the open enrollment period for Medicare approaches, one Aroostook County organization is here to help. News Source 8′s Cam Smith has more on the type of assistance available.
The Aroostook Agency on Aging is working to assist county residents ahead of the open enrollment period for Medicare which begins next month.
“Anybody that’s doing a review during the Medicare open enrollment period is already on Medicare insurance. This is a time of year to review their coverage and see if what they currently have is going to change significantly. And if they want to roll into a different plan or a different coverage.”
During the COVID-19 pandemic, the Agency on Aging has had to change the way they meet with clients.
“We are using alternative methods to get in contact with everybody. Mainly the phone, and mail and email. Scanning, faxing… everything that is not in person is what we are encouraging everyone to use this year.”
Tara Henderson, Medicare Education Coordinator, says despite the pandemic the Agency can still accommodate you.
“I have volunteers that are comfortable with speaking to people on the phone. I have other volunteers that are trained to use the Medicare website and they will enter those medication lists right on that website. So, I have help and trained volunteers and of course the more volunteers we have, the more people we can serve.”
In person meetings are also an option for those who need it.
“We’ll still meet all of the COVID protocols of safety and cleanliness and the masks. The partitions between us.”
The open enrollment period runs from October 15th to December 7th, and clients must meet specific guidelines to qualify.
