PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - Rent relief is being extended. MaineHousing has another $10 million in new funds for renters. This will allow them to accept applications for rent relief until the end of September.

Jason Parent is the executive director of ACAP. He says through this program, they’ve been able to help 720 households with rent, distributing $620,000 to landlords throughout The County.

“It’s been very helpful to those households who have been impacted by COVID 19 We are a bit concerned about what happens next there are households out there who are relying on this assistance who are not yet back in a position of full employment since COVID 19 and the economic implications of the pandemic struck Aroostook County.”

Since April, Governor Mills and Maine Housing have allocated more than $22 million for the program.

They say it’s supporting an estimated 14,000 renter households in the state.
