First week of the moose hunt is underway

ASHLAND, Maine (WAGM) -The first week of the moose hunt got underway today

It was a busy start to the season at some of the registration stations. In Ashland by 11 am this morning they had already tagged 11 moose and successful hunters were lining up to get their moose tagged. Even with the warm temperatures the moose have been very active. Because of the very dry conditions on woods roads there is a concern about visibility being very low because of the dust and being careful while driving,

This is the 40th year for the moose hunt. Once again the majority of the permits are here in the County in Zones 1-6.

Ashland tagged 21 . Fort Kent had 17 including the largest one of 997 pounds. Mt Chase, Van Buren and Presque Isle each tagged 7 and Island Falls registered two.
