UMPI teams will compete against Thomas College
PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) - The University of Maine Presque Isle and Thomas College will play the first Intercollegiate games since March. The Owls and Terriers will meet in soccer, cross country, golf.
It will all start this weekend with a golf match and cross country meet in Presque Isle.
Kane:" Our first four weeks we progressed through phase one and phase two of the NCAA plan. Everything went really well we are not testing fall sports athletes once a week and we have had no positive tests on campus. We are in phase three which allows for us to explore competition. We are playing Thomas in some of our sports."
The Owls and Terriers will be meeting in certain events over the next three weekends.
Kane:" This weekend we are hosting a cross country meet on our campus and hosting golf at Presque Isle Country Club. Next weekend we are going to have our men’s soccer team travel down the play Thomas and the women’s teams will play in Presque Isle. We are going to flip flop the next weekend. Over the course of the next few weekends we will also have another cross country meet and golf match in Waterville."
The Owls have been working hard on conditioning since school started. The soccer golf and cross country teams are all looking forward to being able to play some outside competition.
Kane:" They have done a great job. Our student athletes, coaches, athletic trainers. There are really strict protocolls we have to follow to get to phase three. I know at times it is frustrating, but their work and determination were amazing and it great to see them in phase 4 of full contact practices. Hopefully getting in the games over the next couple of weekends and getting rewarded for all the hard work they have done.
