PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -We are through the first few weeks of the fall sports season and now a group is beginning to look at a winter sport, basketball.

This time of year the International Association of Basketball Officials begin classes for prospective basketball officials. The Classes will still be held this year, but in a different format.

Orser:" Our classes will be all zoom and on line. We are pretty versatile we aren’t locked into one time or day. I am trying to get the message out if anyone is interested they call my cell 227 4811 or our e mail address is

There is still a great need for officials throughout the State and the County is no different.

Orser:" I had heard we have four or five who are not going to ref for one reason or another. Some of the young guys have taken coaching jobs that limits their availability. We just need officials. Especially if COVID there might be single games a lot of games every night and probably mostly two person so we need help."

The classes can also be done individually through zoom. The classes will also be posted on line so that prospective officials can review their lessons. Orser says that this year you can go at your own pace and will have to do a floor test at a later time

Orser:" We are set up if they wanted to we could do a bunch of sessions all in one week. We aren’t locked into one day. I could see within a two or three weeks period they could take all the sessions. We can get them ready to be tested and we can work the floor work in later."
