Madawaska wins Aroostook League golf title
Madawaska, Maine (WAGM) - The Madawaska Owls are celebrating the Aroostook League golf championship. This is the first time in several years that the Owls fielded a golf team. The six golfers on the squad played a lot of golf all summer.
(Justin Pelletier):" We had a couple of guys come together. We had been trying to do this for a couple of years. Just to finally see it in motion and be able to win Regional’s was awesome."
(Robbie Lausier):" Six of us were playing all summer almost every day. Developed a passion for the game.
Athletic Director Lynn Wetmore was approached by former athletic Director Mike Pelletier and Ethan Wetmore who says the six at the golf course all summer long. Pelletier and Wetmore may be years apart in age, but have a passion for the sport and they saw the passion for the sport in the six members of the team.
Wetmore:" We have an 80 year coach and a 20 year old coach that got together and played all summer. Why don’t we get these guys to play. They were anxious to do it. I had six or seven kids who said let’s do it."
The six also play soccer so they have been busy.
Wetmore:" Everything going on and we didn’t know if we would have a season they were able to play two sports it is an added bonus for them."
But they say that having playing golf this summer helped them deal with social distancing guidelines.
Pelletier:" We can socially distance on the course. It’s not like on a osccer field where we are all bunched up together."
