County Cross Country race set for Saturday
CARIBOU, Maine (WAGM) -For the first time this year all of the County Cross Country teams will be in one place competing for the Aroostook League Championship. tomorrow in Caribou.
Graves:" We are fortunate to have this race with all the schools in Aroostook County which is done annually. This year due to the COVID restrictions this will be used as a State qualifying race for the smaller schools."
One boys team and one girls team will qualify for the States and the top two individuals who are not members of the qualifying team will also advance to the States.
Presque Isle and Caribou will compete for Aroostook League honors but will race in the Penobscot League State qualifier next weekend in Bangor.
Graves:' We will go down next Saturday the 31st for a State meet qualifier with the other PVC schools. For that race it will be the top three teams and the top two individuals in each race.
The Saturday races will be run in waves instead of all together.
Graves:" Mimic what it would be at the PVC’s and the States. They are going to have two waves. The top athletes will go first and then 30 seconds later the second group of runners. The girls race will start after the completion of the boys race."
Graves wants to remind people that spectators at this event and also at other state qualifying events will not be allowed.
Graves:" Our Superintendents have asked that we have no spectators at these championship events. It’s going to be the same thing at the PVC and the same thing at the States."
