PRESQUE ISLE, Maine (WAGM) -Second year nursing students at Northern Maine Community College received a generous gift this month.

Each student finishing up their schooling will receive up to $800 dollars for nursing program testing fees and expenses. The donation made by NMCC Foundation donor Mary Smith, is to help students with the transition into their professions.

“To have someone else stand behind you and just say to you, I believe in you, I believe what you’re doing is important and I believe that you are going to succeed by giving us this gift has just been just such a wonderful feeling, to know that it is just one more person that believes in us.”

The National Council Licensure Examination required to practice nursing is not offered north of Bangor. The money will also help alleviate some financial stress on the students in terms of housing and travel.
