DANFORTH, Maine (WAGM) -A new LifeFlight helipad has been installed in Danforth thanks to the community

The $80,000 helipad was funded entirely by donations from the community and surrounding businesses. One of only four in Washington County, the helipad is located off East Grand Lake and will be used for emergency transport all year round.

“If a person is injured say on an ATV or snowmobile trail and they’re in Danforth or in a remote area in the woods, the ambulance and warden service will go out and find them and get them out of the woods but the nearest trauma center, if they’re severely injured is Bangor which is more than a two hour ride by ambulance so it improves the safety by cutting the two hour ambulance ride to a 25 to 30 minute by life flight.”

In addition to a LifeFlight helicopter, the Maine Forest Service will also use the area if a forest fire takes place. Rossignol adds, town members have been extremely supportive of the new safety measure added to the area.
